SAMPARC™ POYNAD BALGRAM

After working for about 9 years at Bhaje, SAMPARC™ realized that it is essential to replicate the residential child care program in other parts of the state with a view to reach many more disadvantaged children. The centre is located in the heart of Bandhan village, 15 km from Alibag & 124 km from Mumbai.

The Bandhan-Poynad Balgram (Children’s Home) was started in the year 1999. Dr. Kiran Mhatre from Poynad proposed to start SAMPARC™ Children’s Home to support the disadvantaged children of Raigad District in Maharashtra. In the first year the house was provided by his father in the same village. In the following year, SAMPARC™ shifted in one independent house where 30 children can easily be accommodated. Near this setup, SAMPARC™ procured a piece of plot, on which four houses have been constructed with a view to accommodate 50 children. At present there are 50 children residing in the bal gram and another 30 children can still be accommodated in the house.

SAMPARC™ Bandhan-Poynad Balsadan is a Licensed Children’s Home under the Department of Women & Child Welfare, Government of Maharashtra for the care of orphan and disadvantaged children.

Under the leadership of Mr Satish Chabukswar - Project Incharge, Counselor and 4 housemothers the children live in a homely atmosphere of care & support. The centre is known for its good educational standard, community values and discipline among children which is very essential for the growth of the children. The centre also has a part-time karate teacher, a computer instructor, a part time doctor for the children.

Students from the centre attend Nana Patil High School, one of the best schools in the kokan area established by the Kokan Educational Trust. The academic record of the children is very good and the children are also very good at extracurricular activities. The children from the centre have achieved 100% academic result for the year 2008-2009.
A part time doctor attends the children and supervises the health aspect of the children. The activities of this center are helped and guided by nine members of Local Committee which is headed by Mr Naresh Jain. This center was awarded with Samajik Seva Puraskar in the year 2002 for the best Balgram in Raigad District. This center also regularly conducts training on Personality Development, Career Guidance and Vocational Training.

Recently this centre has been renovated and is now having one community hall, guest room, staff room, and 2 balsadans. A separate office has been constructed. Now this centre can accommodate 60 children The children regularly practice Karate under a professional trainer. They also enjoy playing Carom, Chess, Yoga, Dance, music, Kabaddi under the supervision of a coach. The children from the centre participated in the Karate Championship competition held by United Martial Arts Academy in which Priyanka Bisht bagged a gold medal, certificate and the Best Fight Trophy.Mamta Ahaved, Omkar Nakhate, Santosh Chowdhary, and Karishma Pansare were awarded Bronze Medal and Certificate.

The Children from the centre participated in Essay Writing Competition conducted by Samivichar Sanstha in which Priyanka Bisht received 1st prize, Poonam Rajesh &Vandana Gundetti received 2nd prize and Karishma Pansare got a consolation prize in elocution.

However the centre needs financial assistance for maintenance, and administrative support. It requires  centre can accommodate 60 children.
